40 to 49 years Type 2 Diabetes Risk Evaluation
The aim of the type 2 diabetes risk evaluation is to assess people aged 40 to 49 years of age who are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
This helps us assess the risk of you developing Type 2 diabetes over the next 5 years and assist you to make achievable lifestyle changes to this preventable disease.
The Risk assessment can be undertaken online or within our medical practice;
What’s included in the type 2 diabetes risk evaluation
- Evaluating your ‘high risk’ score as determined by the Australian Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool.
- Taking your medical history, undertaking physical examinations and clinical investigations • making an assessment of risk factors and results of relevant examinations and investigations
- Initiating interventions, if required referrals and follow-up services relating to the management of any risk factors identified can be discussed and arranged
- Giving patient advice and information; including strategies to achieve lifestyle and behaviour changes if appropriate
Risk Factors
Risk factors include the following:
- Lifestyle risk factors, such as smoking, physical inactivity and poor nutrition;
- Biomedical risk factors, such as high blood pressure, impaired glucose metabolism and excess weight; and
- A family history of a chronic disease.
Who undertakes the health assessment?
The risk evaluation will be undertaken by a Registered Nurse. Following the assessment and collection of information, the doctor will discuss their findings and recommendations with you.
Are there any costs for the health assessment?
The Type 2 Diabetes Risk Evaluation 40-49year olds, can be bulk billed through Medicare once every three years (if eligible).
Private Health Assessments can be undertaken as a private cost.
How long will it take?
The Risk evaluation will take between 30 to 45 minutes.
